One sketch, Three ways

One thing I love about a sketch is how you can tweak it to fit what your needs. That is exactly what I did with the card sketch featured on the Studio Calico blog.

First I kept fairly close, the only real difference is that my banner pieces are much larger and my sentiment is stretch across the bottom row of banners. It came out a little bit busier than what I had first planned on, the woodgrain stamp was a last minute decision.

The second card mainly focused on the grid design featured in the sketch. I used a Martha Stewart butterfly punch and punched it out of several pieces of patterned paper, instead of choosing to end it with the three rows featured in the sketch I decided to keep going below. In the end I'm very happy with how this card came out, goes to show a sketch can merely be a jumping off point, not concrete direction.

The third card kept with the grid thinking. This time I chose to keep with the three rows and dropped one below the sentiment. The hearts from my Stampin' Up! are so small that I chose to use five across so that I could fill the same width that the sentiment filled. Not a bad card but the butterfly is still my favorite.

Card Palooza

Friday Sept. 6th 2013 will forever be known as card palooza at my house. I've cranked them out left and right, it's amazing what you can get done without a toddler underfoot. I'm going to separate the pictures into three posts, I have two that will be linked up to some challenges.

First let's join in on the Pretty Pink Posh 10 min. craft dash.

The only way I was able to stay within the 10 min. time limit was to let the patterned paper do the work for me. There would be no way for me to do more than I did within that time frame unless I made cards and lot and perfected my technique. I'm glad I took the challenge because I learned that I can not crank out a decent card in that amount of time. HA!

The background is a piece of very old My Mind's Eye paper, from the Fine and Dandy collection. The stamps used are Lawn Fawn's new Woodgrain Backdrops and Milo's ABC's, love both of these stamp sets and I can see using them over and over again. The ink is Stampin' Up Baked Brown Sugar and Versamark. Gold embossing powder is from American Crafts, Zing Metallic Gold.

SG Blog Hop

Welcome to the SG Blog Hop for September, if this is your first stop, you might like to start at the Scrapbook Generation blog and then hop through each link.

I'm so exciting to be included in the hop, my layout is coming from the fabulous One on One book by Debbie Sanders. If you've been here before you might have noticed another layout up a few months ago from the same book. It's a great book for a one page scrapper, which is what I make most of the time.

Meeting Ariel

My layout is a little more simple than my normal style but I didn't want to overwhelm the photo. This was taken in 2001, film days, remember those, when I got to meet Ariel for the first time. A true dream come true, The Little Mermaid is my favorite animated movie to date. I don't know how those characters can stay in costume so long, at least the girl playing Ariel has it easy with out the big costume of some others have to suffer with.

You can find the SG sketches in their books and as downloads in the SG store, and there is a free one every month in case you wanted to try it out.

Next on the hop is Tina - http://tiggersscrapplace.blogspot.com/, leave a comment on each blog and one lucky commenter will receive a free sketch bundle of their choice from the store. The winner will be drawn on September 9th, so you have one week to leave a comment.

Meeting Santa

This is the first Christmas page for my son's album I've done. For some reason I struggle with Christmas pages, maybe I think that I won't do the occasion justice. I'm happy with how this one turned out and now I can't wait to finish up the other Christmas pages for his album! Thanks Ruth for this blog hop, it was just the kick start I needed to get off my lazy bum and get working.

Next on the hop is, Melissa - http://yesterday2day4ever.blogspot.co.nz.

Silhouette Cut File Share

Stars are all the rage right now in scrapbooking and home decor so I created a cut file to share that is perfect for pocket pages.

Actual size is 2.88 x 3.90 because I use Becky Higgins page protectors and they aren't true to size. It would be easy enough to delete the outer file and create one that is is a true 3x4 if you needed it to be. You could even take of the rounded corners if you wished. You can snag it here.
